Woman Charged With Child Abuse After Situation At Local Motel

Newport police responded to a situation at the Econo Lodge motel involving a small child. According to witnesses, a woman identified as 31 year old Kimberly Abreo became unresponsive in a hotel elevator. Abreo had told their 3 year old child to go ahead and go on out to the pool…unattended. The child walked out to the pool area and fell into the pool. Fortunately a witness was able to pull the small girl from the pool.

Abreo was taken from the elevator and placed in a rolling office chair, which she then fell out of hitting her head. When police arrived they administered several doses of Narcan to revive Abreo. Both she and the child were transported to the Newport Medical Center. Abreo was later released from the hospital and was placed under arrest charged with child abuse and child endangerment. The child’s condition was not released in the report, but an emergency referral was made to the Department of Children’s Services.
