High Speed Chase Leads To Drug Arrest
A woman is in custody after leading a Cocke County Sheriff’s deputy on a high speed chase that covered several roads in the county, including I-40. Lt. Zach Magourik spotted a vehicle pull out from Lewis Road onto Cosby Hwy Friday night with no headlights. The driver of the vehicle was swerving from lane to lane making Magourik believe the driver was intoxicated. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver entered I-40 eastbound then drove at speeds of up to 120mph, going around several vehicles. The driver then left the interstate at exit 440 and continued onto Hartford Road driving at excessive speeds. That driver then turned onto Trail Hollow Road and tried to make a U-turn in a gravel parking lot, but Lt. Magourik used his vehicle to thwart that move and bring the evading driver to a halt. That driver was 42 year old Rachel Carver. She stated she was fleeing from police because she had a suspended license. She also admitted to throwing a silver container out her window on Hartford Road that contained Meth. She faces charges of tampering with evidence, along with evading arrest and reckless driving.
