National Law Enforcement Week
This week is National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. It is a week set aside to honor those that have given their lives in the line of duty. Already this year there have been 57 law enforcement officers that have died in the line of duty in the US. 4 of those 57 deaths have occurred here in the state of Tennessee. According to the Cocke County Sheriff’s office two of those four that were killed in Tennessee came from felony murder by gunfire. This Friday morning, May 17, the sheriff’s office will be hosting a memorial service to pay tribute to those Newport and Cocke County officers that have lost their lives in the line of duty over the years in Cocke County. That ceremony will begin at 9am and will be on the south lawn of the Cocke County Courthouse. The public is encouraged to attend.
