Water Problems On English Mountain
The East Sevier County Utility District has been issued a fine for violating the Safe Drinking Water Act. The fine of over $20,000 was issued by the The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation in late April. The fine revolves around violations concerning water to customers on English Mountain. The order states that the district did not maintain 20psi for extended periods in the water lines, which resulted in numerous customers on English Mountain going days without water. The utility also missed several water sampling deadlines.
The problems with water on English Mountain go back well over a decade. Things got so bad that in December of 2022, a state review board approved a recommendation to oust the entire East Sevier County Utility District board. A new board was then seated.
Of the $20,480 fine, the board has until May 27 to pay the first $4,096.
