Man Arrested For Motor Vehicle Theft
A Morristown man is in jail in Cocke County after ailing to return a borrowed vehicle. Ronald Williamson told Newport police, he had agreed to loan his Ford Ranger pickup valued at $8,000 to 31 year old Roy Melton of Morristown. The truck was picked up by Melton at the Econo Lodge in Newport on Saturday. Sunday, Williamson sent a message via Facebook Messenger requesting the truck be brought back. Melton responded that he was on his way but then never showed up. Newport police then contacted the Hamblin County Sheriff’s Department who located the truck in Morristown. Melton was arrested for motor vehicle theft and transported to the Cocke County line where he was transferred into Newport police custody. Williamson was then informed of where he could pick up his truck.
