Three More Cubs Added to ABR’s Roster
Add three more cubs to the number of bear cubs being taken care of at Appalchian Bear Rescue. The latest three cubs coem to ABR after an incident in Blount County happened on Monday. Residents and visitors in a neighborhood with rental cabins and Air BNB’s told the TWRA that a family of bears had been coming into the neighborhood and getting into broken bear resistant trash bins, unlocked vehicles and also coming onto poirches and decks looking for food. Witnesses told TWRA agents the bears damaged a grill on a deck.
On Monday, TWRA agents were on site at an Air BNB in the area when the bears returned. They attempted to get the bears to leave but those attempts were not successful. The mother bear was even coming within inches of people, leading agents to believe the bear had been fed by humans. The decision was then made to capture and euthanize the mother bear for the public’s safety. The three bear cubs were also captured and taken to the Appalachian Bear Rescue. Velma, Daphne and Scooby now bring the number of cubs at ABR to 24.
