Man Faces Multiple Assault Charges

Newport police were called to a home Wednesday evening after a woman called 911 in distress saying she was being assaulted and that her boyfriend was threatening to shoot her in the head. Police arrived and found the 55 year old victim lying in a hospital bed in the living room, bedridden. The boyfriend, 54 year old Timothy Long was found in the kitchen area. Long was removed to outside the home while an officer spoke with the victim. She stated that Long had made threats of assaulting her, had been verbally abusive and had thrown her medications across the room so she would not be able to reach them, because of her bedridden status. Long became disruptive with officers including repeatedly kicking one of the officers as well. He is now charged with one count of assault, one count of assault against a first responder, plus a charge of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
