Another Business To Join Walters State Apprenticeship Programs
Walters State and Sonoco have announced they have partnered to develop an apprenticeship program to train maintenance mechanics. Apprentices will also learn electromechanical or automation skills. Apprentices will receive valuable on-the-job training and get paid while learning. Engineering technology classes will include programmable logic, electrical circuits and welding. Credit classes taken may be applied to the associate of applied science in engineering technology. Through the college’s Division of Workforce Training, students will earn certifications from OSHA and other agencies.
Mickey Reaves, operations manager at Sonoco’s Morristown location, says the company is thrilled and honored to partner with Walters State Community College in developing the apprenticeship program which will benefit both students and employees while contributing to the growth and success of the business and the community.
Sonoco is the second business to announce an apprenticeship program with Walters State. Ober Gatlinburg announced a similar program last week. For more information on the apprenticeship program, contact Anita Ricker at Walters State in Morristown.
