Bear Involved In Anakeesta Employee Encounter Euthanized
The TWRA says they have now euthanized the bear that an employee of Anakeesta had a close encounter with last Thursday. That bear had walked into the employee entrance of the “The Bear Can” concession stand looking for food while there were patrons nearby. When the employee came back to the concession stand, she basically ran into the bear as it was coming out the employee entrance. The bear then lunged at the employee before running off. The Anakeesta employee was not hurt. On Monday, TWRA officers trapped a bear matching the description of the one from Anakeesta and that bear was then euthanized. The TWRA says a female bear and several cubs were also caught, but they were released. Anakeesta says they are installing steel cage doors to secure concession stands and also steel cages for garbage cans.
The TWRA is once again warning visitors and residents to not feed bears and to make sure all trash is secured. You can go to the website BearWise.org to get more information about what to do should you encounter a bear.
