Biden Overturns Death Sentence Of Inmate Convicted Of North Carolina Woman
One of the federal inmates who has seen their death sentence commuted to life in prison is responsible for the killing of a woman from Western North Carolina. Richard Allen Jackson was convicted in the kidnapping and murder of Karen Styles of nearby Candler, NC. Styles had last been seen in October of 1994 after she went for a run in the Bent Creek area of the Pisgah National Forest. Her body was found a few weeks later. A federal jury convicted Jackson of kidnapping, raping and murdering Karen Styles back in 2001 and he was given the death penalty. Just over two years ago in April of 2022, a federal appeals court refused to overturn the dearth sentence. Now, Joe Biden, as one of his final acts as president done just that. Richard Allen Jackson is one of the 37 federal inmates that had their sentence commuted from death to life in prison by President on Monday.
