Bitcoin Scam In Cocke County

Beware of a Bitcoin scam that is going on. A Cocke County woman reported to police on Friday that she got a post from a friend on Facebook about buying the crypto currency known as Bitcoin. The victim told police that she sent money through CashApp to purchase Bitcoin. What she didn’t realize was he friend’s Facebook account had been hijacked by scammers and they are sending out the Bitcoin scam to everyone on that account’s “Friends List” . the victim stated she had been scammed out of $10,800 by the time she realized this was a scam. the woman who has the Facebook account being used says she contacted Facebook about the problem, but Facebook refused to delete the account, so the scam continues. Earlier this week, another person in Cocke County fell victim to this scam, but to the tune of $45,000.
