Blackburn Leads Johnson In First US Senate Race Poll
2024 is a major election year and polls are already coming out, even though the general election is over a year away. The first poll of Tennessee voters for the US Senate race between republican incumbent Marsha Blackburn and Knoxville state representative, democrat Gloria Johnson, shows Blackburn with a commanding lead at this point. The Emerson College poll shows Blackburn with 50%, Johnson garners 26% and the rest of voters polled are undecided. Gloria Johnson gained national attention when Republican state lawmakers in the Tennessee house attempted to expel her and Reps. Justin Pearson and Justin Jones — dubbed the “Tennessee Three” — for participating in a gun control demonstration on the House floor. Johnson narrowly avoided expulsion.
As far as Blackburn. she is seeking a second term in the senate after several terms in the US House. Blackburn defeated former Governor Phil Bredesen in 2018 for the seat held by Bob Corker.
