Break-In At Taco Bell
Newport police are looking to identify two thieves that broke into the Taco Bell in Newport early Wednesday morning. According to the police report, around 5:30 am, two unknown suspects with hoodies and makes crawled through the drive-thru window, disabled the burglar alarm, and attempted to open the store safe. Police responded to a burglar alarm at that time. An officer was met by an employee at the front door and the two checked all doors and windows at that time. It is believed the suspects made their way to the Taco Bell by walking through a freshly cut patch of grass on Hiwasee St. due to their footprints leaving large clumps of grass throughout the store. Management estimated that the suspects did $1,000 worth of damage between the store safe and the drive-thru window. Management told police that similar break-ins had een reported at Taco Bell locations in Clinton & Oak Ridge recently. Investigators were hoping to get a look at the surveillance cameras from the Commercial Bank location next door to get a clue on who the suspects are.
