Burchette Staying On As Director Of Schools

Newport’s Director of Schools, Sandra Burchette, will be putting off retirement for one year. Burchette had planned on leaving her longtime post as Director of Schools at the end of the school year. However, she has decided to rescind her resignation after being asked by the board to do so. The announcement was made earlier this week. Sandra Burchette says she has agreed to stay on for one more year and a new contract will be drawn up soon that will run from July 1 of this year to June 30, 2024. The school board hopes to have a new director hired by this time next year to allow for a smooth transition.
