Car Pursuit Ends In Crash In Lowe’s Parking Lot

A chase up Cosby Hwy Saturday evening resulted in a man being jailed. Newport police were notified that a Cocke County deputy was in pursuit of a vehicle traveling northbound on Cosby Hwy towards the city limits, the suspect was fleeing from police. That chase ended up in the Lowe’s parking lot, with the suspect driving recklessly through the parking lot. The suspect then crashed through Lowe’s gate behind the store, where he was finally apprehended after trying to flee on foot. The suspect, William Penn, wound up doing $20,000 damage to Lowe’s property.
