CCSO To Be Out In Force New Years’ Weekend
The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and the Cocke County Sheriff’s office are reminding you that drinking and driving do not mix. With New Years’ Eve coming up this weekend, the Highway Safety Office is kicking in its “Booze It & Lose It” campaign. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office along with the Newport Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will all be out in force this weekend to make sure that you stay safe.
The Highway Safety Office says about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes every day — that’s one person every 39 minutes. Of course that number rises during holiday weekends. A DUI can not just cost you your license but also can be costly in the wallet. Attorney fees, fines and court costs can easily add up to nearly $10,000.
According to the Tennessee Highway Safety office 1,303 people have been killed in 2023 so far on Tennessee’s roads. That’s up from 1,284 at this time in 2022.
