CCSO To Host Identity Fraud Awareness Training
Lots of scams going on right now and they seem to be on the increase. According to the Federal Trade Commission, it’s not your imagination…incidents of fraud are on the rise. Incidents of identity theft and related fraud rose nationwide in 2021, and seems to be even higher in 2022. The FTC says Fraud complaints increased 19% for 2021, to more than 5.8 million incidents. Financial losses from that fraud rose to more than $6.1 billion. To help you protect yourself, coming up in January the Cocke County Sheriff’s office will host Identity Theft Awareness and Fraud Training for Cocke County citizens. That training will happen on January 30th at 6pm at the First Baptist Church on Amanda Circle. If you are a victim of identity theft or fraud or know someone who is, or simply want to educate yourself in an effort of safeguarding yourself and your family, the sheriff’s department says this is training you do not want to miss. The training will be conducted by the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security. Sheriff CJ Ball says this is the first of several training classes they have planned for the Cocke County community to help citizens protect themselves and their money.
