Chase Ends In Reckless Driving Arrest

Friday afternoon, Newport police were involved in a chase with a vehicle driving recklessly through neighborhoods and a school zone. The chase began when Detective Will Garber saw a vehicle on Alex Street barreling towards him in his lane at a high rate of speed. When that vehicle went passed, Garber turned his vehicle around and began pursing, but terminated the chase when the suspect turned onto Hedrick Drive near a school zone. The vehicle was spotted moments later by another officer on White Oak Avenue at Mountain View and the pursuit re-engaged. The fleeing suspect turned onto various streets with disregard to stop signs and other vehicles in its path. The suspect them tried to turn into a driveway near Lakeview Street and crashed into an embankment. The driver, 61 year old Ricky Dockery yelled at officers that he had done nothing wrong. He was taken into custody, charged with reckless driving and evading arrest among other charges.
