City Council Resolves Two Issues
The Newport City Council was in session Tuesday night. It was the first time the city council was back in their chamber at city hall since September. Among the items tackled by the council, was to close a loophole in current city regulations regarding tiny homes. City code specified that homes under 1,000 square feet could not be moved into the city limits. However, the code did not specify that you could not build one on site. The city council closed that loophole as they changed the city code to require that all homes built in the city limits of Newport have to be at least 1,000 square feet.
The city council also approved a move to help with traffic on the east side of Newport. With I-40 being closed, there has been heavy traffic coming from North Carolina on Hwy 25/70. Traffic has been getting backed up at the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. The city council approved a proposal to place a turning arrow onto the stop light at that intersection which features Brock’s market on the corner.
