City Of Newport Approves Partial Credit Card Policy
The Newport City Council met last night at city hall. The council moved one step farther in the process of credit card usage for payments to the city. After last night, you will now be able to pay property taxes with a credit card…but that is all for now. The city is looking to expand the credit card policy to include payments of tickets and fines at a later date.
The council also approved the application for an Appalachian Regional Commission Grant for Phase II of the storm drain project on Main Street downtown.
After last night’s meeting there is also a new holiday for city employees. The council voted last night to follow the federal government and make Juneteenth a city holiday. Juneteenth…June 19th…falls on Sunday this year…so it will be observed on Monday June 20th.
