City Of Newport Gets Clean Audit Report
he Newport City Council met in regular session last night for the month of May. One of the big items on their agenda was to get the results of their annual audit. This audit was for fiscal year 2022-23. Once again, the city’s audit came back clean and shows the city of Newport in strong financial shape.
That good financial shape allowed the city to accept bids for several projects, which is headlined by a storm water project to help with drainage in the Indian Hills subdivision. The council also approved a generator for Fire Station number one along with a vehicle for Newport Animal Control.
One other development of note from the city council meeting last night. The Newport City Council had the final reading and went on to approve rezoning of a piece of property on West Hwy 25/70. That property is the former home of Rusty Wallace Ford. The council officially rezone the property to Commercial 3. That move now paves the way for the new RaceTrac Travel Center that is to be built on that property. No word on when that RaceTrac location will be opening. The RaceTrac location will put a convenience store with fuel on each corner of the intersection of Hwy 25/70 and Generation Drive, joining the Time Out Travel Center, Love’s Travel Center and the recently rebuilt Exxon.
