CLB Schedules Special Meeting September 26
The Cocke County CLB has scheduled a special meeting for next Tuesday night, September 26. This meeting is being held to vote on new zoning restrictions that are being proposed for the county. The City of Newport already has zoning restrictions, but up until now, there have been no restrictions in the county. The zoning issue has been brought to the forefront by Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis’ office. The mayor says there is concern regarding property developments for tiny homes and longterm RV parks. Owners of homes and RVs in these developments would enjoy county benefits, but under current circumstances would pay no property taxes. Mathis says that places an unfair burden on current property tax payers in the county. The public meeting to discuss theses proposed zoning regulations will be Monday, September 25 at 6pm at the Cocke County courthouse. The CLB will then meet on Tuesday night at 6pm at the courthouse to vote on whether to approve or disapprove of the proposed regulations. Anyone wishing to address the CLB at the meetings needs to sign the sheet outside the circuit courtroom prior to the start of the meetings.
