Cocke County Besieged By Trash

If you have recently went to one of the convenience centers in Cocke County to take your trash, and found your center closed…you’re not alone. Several of the conveneince centers have closed during regular hours and Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis says that it is because of Christmas.

Mathis says each year around this time, there is an abnormal amount of trash because of the Christmas holiday period. This year, the situation has been aggravated because the compactor at the Cosby convenience center broke down forcing that center to close and residents had to go elsewhere. Mathis says that while that compactor is back up, it is not running well.

He says the county is pursuing grant funds to replace the Cosby compactor and other older compactors in the county. For now, he asks that you just be patient as they deal with trying to get the trash removed out of the convenience centers as quick as possible. He says as soon as the Christmas trash season is over, things will return to normal.
