Cocke County CLB Meeting Last Night
The Cocke County CLB met last night at the Cocke County Courthouse. One of the items on the agenda was to replace Angie Shelton, who is resigning her post as Cocke County Property Assessor. The CLB unanimously voted to approve Macie Reed to take over a Property Assessor. Jeffrey Greene was unanimously approved to fill one of the vacancies on the Planning Commission. Kenneth Ford was also up for appointment for the other vacancy on the planning commission…his approval passed by a 12-1 vote.
The CLB also heard a request to eliminate the 1500 foot rule for beer sales. That rule states that no beer sales can happen within 1500 feet of a church or school. A representative from the Beer Board addressed the CLB noting that neighboring counties like Sevier & Jefferson have totally eliminated that rule and that the 1500 rule is costing the county substantial revenue each year. The CLB made no decision on that request, but decided to send it to general committee for discussion.
Finally, Cocke County EMA Director Joe Esway told the CLB his department is working with the fire department to set up a coat drive for Cocke County children who are in need. As we learn more about that we will let you know.
