Cocke County Election Commission Releases August Election Details
It’s only May, but we’re actually less than 3 months away from the primary and local election in August, and less than 6 months away from the general election in November. The Cocke County Election Commission has released the ballot information and the voting hours for the State Primary and County General Election to be held on August 1.
There is a US Senate seat up for grabs this year. On the republican side, incumbent Marsha Blackburn is being challenged for the republican nomination by Tres Wittum of Nashville. There are four candidates running for the Democrat nomination. The winners of the primary will face off in November. US Representative Diana Harshbarger is running unopposed on the republican side, there are two running for the democrat nomination. State representative Jeremy Faison does not have a challenger on the republican side. Justin L. Gross of Newport is the only candidate that appears on the Democratic ballot. Those two will face off in the general election in November.
The County General Election as Assessor of Property and three county school board seats for Districts 3, 5 and 7. All candidates for those seats are running unopposed.
The voter registration deadline for the August 1 election is July 2. Early voting will be July 12 – 27 at the Early Voting Site in the Western Plaza Shopping Center.
