Cocke County Fair Impresses At TN Fair Merit Awards
The Tennessee Department of Agriculture and Tennessee Association of Fairs recently recognized the outstanding achievements of Tennessee’s best county fairs. 850 people were in attendance late last week for the Fairs Merit Awards, which were part of the 102nd Tennessee Association of Fairs Convention in Murfreesboro. Forty-nine fairs in all received the Award of Merit based on agriculture, education, community participation, programs, and appearance. Among those winning an award of merit was the Cocke County Fair. In the Division II category, Cocke County Fair won the award for Most Improved Fair. The Cocke County Fair also won two other awards…second place for Scrapbook and third place for Best Fair Hat Theme or Logo.
Other fairs in the area also won awards. The Greene County Fair won the state championship in Division III. Sevier County was the 2nd Runner Up. Greene County also won for Best Tabloid. Sevier County won the award for Best Fair Theme Display.
Two regional fairs won awards as well as the Tennessee Valley Fair in Knoxville and the Appalachian Fair in the Tri-Cities won the Award of Merit. The Tennessee Valley Fair also won the award for Best Fair Brochure.
