Cocke county Police Rescue Woman Held Against Her Will
Cocke County deputies were advised on Tuesday about a woman being held against her will on McGaha Chapel Road. Sheriff Armondo Fontes was the first on the scene and found the woman walking on McGaha Chapel Road who stated she had made her way out of that home. The woman stated she had been taken from her residence in North Charleston, South Carolina at around 230 Tuesday morning. She asked multiple times to go back home and was rejected and had her phone taken away from her multiple times while trying to dial 911. The young woman identified herself as Kaneia Maywethers. She stated that “He had a knife and threatened to kill me.” Deputies attempted to make contact with the people at the residence on McGaha Chapel Road. Deputies found the man holding Matwethers hiding behind the skirting of a mobile home. He was ID’d as 35 year old James Lavar Powell of Canton, OH. Powell had numerous warrants out for his arrest and he was taken into custody.
