Cocke County Population Rises Less Than 1%
Here’s a unique way to put the 2020 census for the state of Tennessee into perspective. According to numbers released on Thursday from the US Census Bureau…there are only 13 counties in the state with a population of more than 102, 455. That means that if a full Neyland Stadium were a county…it would be the 14th largest in the state. Shelby County ranked as the biggest county with 929, 744…but that population remained largely unchanged from 2010. Davidson County however showed over a 14% increase in population…715, 884 in Nashville’s home county. Knox County grew by over 10% and ranks 3rd with Hamilton County (Chattanooga) ranking 4th. Sevier County saw a 10% increase in population. One County saw a double digit decline in population…Lake County in west Tennessee lost 10 1/2 percent of their population. Nineteen counties in the state showed their populations remained virtually the same…Cocke County is one of those…as Cocke County gained 337 residents over the last 10 years…that’s an increase of .94%
