Cocke County Sees Slight Decrease In Unemployment Rate
The majority of counties in Tennessee saw a drop in their unemployment rates in July. Individual county numbers were released on Thursday by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The data shows that seventy-seven counties reported lower unemployment rates than what they had in June, while rates stayed the same in eight counties and increased in the remaining 10.
Cocke County saw a drop of one tenth of a percent from 4.5 to 4.4% for the month of July. Greene County saw the same type of drop from 5.2 to 5.1%. Greene County remains the only county in this area with an unemployment rate of 5% or higher. Hamblen County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.6% down from 3.9% in June. Jefferson County drops from 3.8 to 3.6%. Sevier County was tied with Williamson County for the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.5%.
The highest unemployment rate in the state was in Weakley County, which is in West Tennessee. They were at 6.2%. The state unemployment rate remained at an allt time low of 3% for the third month in a row. The national unemployment rate is 4.3%.
