Cocke County Sees Slight Uptick In Unemployment…But Is Still Low
May unemployment numbers have been released for individual counties in Tennessee. Cocke County’s unemployment rate remains relatively low, although it did go up just a little. In April, the unemployment rate in Cocke County was 3.4%. For May, that rate increased just a tenth of a percent to 3.5%. Hamblen county also saw its rate rise the same amount as Cocke County’s. Hamblen County is now at 2.9% up from 2.8%. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate rose two tenths of a percent from 2.8% to 3%. Greene County had the largest increase in its unemployment rate going up a half a percent from 3.1 to 3.6%. Sevier County’s unemployment rate remain unhanged at 2.1%, which comes in as lowest in the state of Tennessee. The highest unemployment rate in the state was once again in Bledsoe County at 4.4%. But that means that all of Tennessee’s 95 counties have unemployment rates below 4.5%.
The overall state unemployment rate is now at a record low of 3%. The unemployment rate nationally is a full percentage point higher at 4%. North Dakota and South Dakota has the nation’s lowest unemployment rates at just 2%. The highest is in California where the unemployment rate is 5.2%.
