Cocke County Unemployment Rates Dip Back Below 5%
Hurricane Helene making her effects felt in the unemployment rates for November in some Tennessee Counties, including UNicoi County which had the highest unemployment rate for last month in the state with 6%. No other county in the state of Tennessee had an unemployment rate that high in November according to data released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Only three other counties were above 5%. Unemployment rates remained the same in 30 counties, while rates in 48 counties increased from October to November. Cocke County was not among them, as Cocke County saw a decrease in the unemployment rate.
Cocke County’s rate dropped back below 5% to 4.9% in November after spiking in October due to Helene. Greene County and Jefferson County saw an increase in their rates, however slight. Greene County was up from 4.4% in October to 4.6%. Jefferson County went up from 3.5 to 3.6%. Hamblen County remained steady at 3.5%. Sevier County had one of the lowest unemployment rates for the month at 2.7%, but that was up from 2.6% in October.
Moore and Williamson counties recorded the state’s lowest unemployment rates for November at 2.6%. Those counties also reported rates of 2.6% in October. The statewide unemployment rate was 3.5% for the month of November.
