Cumberland And Main Street Re-Opened
Traffic is now flowing better in downtown Morristown. Crews re-opened the intersection of Cumberland and Main Street in downtown Morristown on Wednesday. That intersection has been closed since January when the Park-Belk building was burned down by an arsonist. Jeffrey Scott Cicerelli is charged with arson in that case. Engineering crews later deemed the building to be structurally unsafe, cancelling any plans of being able to repair the historic building. Demolition began back in February and Main Street and Cumberland were closed in that area for weeks. Main Street was finally reopened about a week ago but the intersection with Cumberland remained closed. It is now back open which will make travel in downtown Morristown much easier.
Owners of the park Belk building say they do have plans to rebuild that structure.
