Dangerous Criminal Caught By Newport Police

A man who was the subject of a manhunt over several counties and 2 states has been captured in Cocke County. Newport police were advised by Greeneville PD that the subject Larry Wayne Hipps could be hiding at the Relax Inn on west Highway 25/70. Officers were told by motel staff to check room 117…officers entered behind two ballistic shields and found 22 year old Jessica Turner on the bed. Officers found Hipps hiding under the bed. Hipps tried to escape, but officers were able to subdue him and place the very dangerous felon into custody. Both Hipps and Turner were charged with possession of meth…Turner was also charged with conspiracy after the fact.

Hipps faces a laundry list of charges that include outstanding warrants in Knox and Greene Counties plus warrants in North Carolina…one of those for assaulting a police officer in Mars Hill.
