David Moore Charged With First Degree Murder
The man wanted for murder who was captured after a 16 hour manhunt has a long history with law enforcement according to Cocke County Sheriff CJ Ball. 66 year old David Moore is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor, 61 year old Mark Burnham Sunday morning in the 600 block of Baysinger Road in Parrottsville. A witness told Cocke County deputies that Moore was inside his home and was armed. The SWAT team finally entered the home and found it empty Sunday afternoon. That set off the manhunt to find David Moore. He was early Monday morning in White Pine near the Jefferson County/Cocke County line. Police gave chase, but lost him on some backroads. An undercover narcotics officer with the Cocke County Sheriff’s office then spotted Moore’s vehicle. That led to a police pursuit. It ended when Moore lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Point Pleasant Road and Emanual Road near Bybee. He was then taken into custody without incident. Moore is facing numerous charges including first degree murder.
Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in the search for David Moore, or in the investigation. Besides the Newport Police Department, the others assisting included the police departments for Sevierville, Morristown, Jefferson City, White Pine, Jefferson County S.O., Greene County S.O., and Hamblen County S.O. along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
