Dept. Of Safety Announced New License Design and Self-Service Kiosk
If you have ever had to wait in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Sevierville or Morristown, you know what a pain that can be. On Monday, the Tennessee Department of Safety is debuting new self-service kiosks, which can reduce wait times at Driver Service Centers. The Department of Safety says they hope to have the new self-serve kiosks at all Driver Service Centers over the next few months.
When you get your new drivers license, it’s going to look a little different. Along with announcing the new kiosks, the Department of Safety also unveiled a new fresh design and improved security features for Tennessee Drivers Licenses and ID cards. The new Driver Licenses and ID cards prominently feature a stylized version of Tennessee’s historic State Capitol and state flag with its iconic three-stars representing the state’s three grand divisions. The new design features waves and patterns printed in very fine lines that are not able to be scanned or easily reproduced. The new credentials are made with a sturdy poly-carbonate composition, incorporate cutting edge security and printing techniques. This includes elaborate overlapping of data and graphics and laser engraved elements that will show if the document has been altered or is fraudulent. A machine-readable barcode with applicable class, endorsements, and restrictions are printed on the back of the card. A mini ghost image repeated from the photograph is encoded with elements for automated validation to help reduce identity theft.
The Department of Safety says that current cardholders will just be issued the new designed cards when their current license expires.
