Dirt Racing Legend Dead After Plane Crash
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a plane crash this morning in Hawkins County. According to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s office, the crash happened around 7:50 this morning near Mooresburg. The FAA says the single-engine Piper J3 had just the pilot on board when it crashed into a barn. The plane was piloted by award-winning dirt track race car driver Scott Bloomquist, who won over 600 races in his long career. The 60 year old’s last race was earlier this month on August 3 in the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. According to the sheriff’s office, the barn that the plane crashed into was on or near Bloomquist’s property in Mooresburg.
According to the website FloRacing.com…Scott Bloomquist has battled a variety of injuries in recent years including injuries to his leg, foot and shoulder, which required surgery before the 2024 racing season. He also had battled prostate cancer. The Hawkins County Sheriff’s office says they are helping the FAA investigate the circumstances involving that crash this morning. Once again, Dirt Track Racing Legend Scott Bloomquist dead at the age of 60.
