Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans
Medicare’s open enrollment period is underway, and some Tennesseans may qualify for extra help through Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans, or D-SNPs.
These plans are designed for older adults and people with disabilities who have limited income. They combine Medicare and Medicaid benefits to make health care easier to manage and more affordable.
Marian Cabanillas with UnitedHealthcare says the plans help people navigate both systems and lower out-of-pocket costs.
“That coordination makes sure individuals can have an easier time using their benefits,” Cabanillas said.
Many plans include dental, vision, and hearing coverage — plus rides to medical appointments, grocery or utility assistance, and more.
Open enrollment runs through December 7th, but those with full Medicaid benefits can adjust their coverage monthly.
Advocates say federal changes are pushing for more integrated care, but states may face new funding challenges — making it important to protect services for older adults and people with disabilities.
