Fatal Shooting In Jefferson County
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday in the Strawberry Plains area. Deputies were called to a camper trailer on Thorngrove Pike where they found two people with gunshot wounds, one of them was deceased. The second victim was transported to the UT Medical Center with a non life-threatening gunshot wound. Deputies surrounded the camper and after a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect is a convicted felon, 31 year old Jonathan Lee Mays. He is now charged with First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The names of the victims have not been released at this time.
