Fire Crews Battle Two Home Fires Saturday
Firefighters battled two house fires in Cocke County Saturday. The first was on Tanglewood Way Saturday morning. Fire crews arrived and found the home totally engulfed in flames. The home’s owner, Wanda Benton valued the structure at around $20,000 and she told police that the home was being rented to Christopher Black who stated all of his belongings were in the home and all of them were destroyed as the structure was a total loss.
Then Saturday afternoon on Irish Cut way, fire crews responded to a blaze at a home that began in the attic. Janel Randazzo told investigators that she and her two kids were in the home around 11:30am when she started to smell smoke but she thought it was the neighbor burning brush. However she says she then noticed the living room light switch was on but the light was not. That’s when she went outside and observed smoke coming from the attic vent. Firefighters acted quickly and the fire was extinguished with damage to the ceiling and rafters. Investigators believe that fire was caused by an electrical issue in the home’s attic.
