Fire Crews Still On Site Of Scott Recycling Fire
Fire crews are still working to completely extinguish that fire that broke out at Scott Recycling on Vernor Ave. in Newport on Monday night. That fire evidently broke out in the back side of the building at around 8pm Monday night. The flames were reported by residents around the area as calls came in to 911 at around 9:15pm. The building was a total loss and that fire burned intensely throughout the overnight hours of Tuesday morning. Fire crews worked all day Tuesday to put out the flames. Nearly every fire agency in Cocke County responded to that fire along with Newport, Dandridge and White Pine fire departments. Fire officials say that it could take several days to completely extinguish that fire. Plastics inside the building made fighting the fire extremely difficult. Officials say that the damage is so bad they may never know what actually caused the fire, they can only speculate.
