Former Sevier County Sheriff, Ron Seals, Dies
It is a day of mourning in Sevier County today. Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters announced Friday, October 27 a day of mourning in remembrance of former Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals who died on Thursday. The Sevier County Courthouse Bell will ring a solemn toll from 11 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. this morning. The official flag of Sevier County will also be flying at half-staff until Sheriff Seals is laid to rest. Ron Seals, also known as “Hoss” had a nearly 50 year career in law enforcement and was sheriff from March of 2007 till he announced his retirement. In 2021, Seals was diagnosed with cancer and announced that he would not seek re-election. Seals was named the 2012 Sheriff of the Year by the the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association. Numerous other law enforcement agencies from around the area, including in Cocke County, are sending their condolences to the Sevier County Sheriff’s office for their great loss.
