Fundraiser Planned For Standing Bear Hiker Hostel
Back in June when heavy rains caused a mudslide that closed Interstate 40 near the North Carolina state line, it was not just the interstate that was affected. The Standing Bear Farm Hikers Hostel near the Waterville Road exit, suffered extensive damage. The hostel has served hikers of the Applachian Trail and guests from all over the world for over 30 years. Owner of the hostel, Maria Guzman, now is getting some help in getting the hostel repaired.
A special fundraiser has been organized to raise funds for the cause. This Thursday evening, July 31, at the Estate at Sweetwater Creek there will be Mexican food provided by the former owner of the Front Porch restaurant that operated in Cosby. There will also be music provided by several bands from around the area. The event begins at 5pm and entry is a suggested $20 donation. The Estate At Sweetwater Creek is located on Edwina-Bridgeport Road, just a short distance off of Highway 73.
