Game Stop Victim Of Phone Switching
Thieves have been targeting Game Stop stores around the area, and last week, they hit the Game Stop location in Newport. According to Adam Daniels with Game Stop, a black male and a white female had entered saying they wanted to trade in an iPhone. Daniels told police he checked the iPhone through the system, then gave the male suspect $800.00 dollars for the phone. After the money was exchanged the male subject asked for the phone back to download some pictures off of it. Daniels says at that time he gave the phone back to the man. Video camera footage showed that the male suspect then pulled a fake phone out from his pocket and placed the real phone back into his pocket…switching the phones. The pair then left the store. Daniels did not realize what had happened till the pair was gone. The next day he says his store received a be on the lookout order regarding those suspects, as they had hit several Game Stops in East Tennessee doing the same scam.
