Good Samaritan Almost Met With Violence
A man who tried to be a good Samaritan was almost met with violence. Riland Morris, Jr. told police that he has been living at the Relax Inn on West Hwy 25/70 and was on is way back to his room when he saw a man passed out behind the wheel of a van behind the Cancun Mexican Restaurant. Morris says he stopped to check on him, but when the man awoke, he began yelling immediately that he had permission by various parties to be parked there. Morris stated that he left to notify the business about the man and then headed back toward his room when he saw the same man passed out again. He stopped to check on him one more time, and he says this time the man came out of the van and threatened him with what he described as a bat with screws sticking out of it. Police spoke with the man from the van who was identified as 51 year old Michael Reitz, who became hostile towards the investigating officer. Reitz, who smelled of alcohol, was detained and then arrested after the weapon was found…Officer Jordan Douglas describing it as a wooden stick with multiple screws fastened to one end that would cause serious bodily harm and had no other purpose. Reitz was charged with aggravated assault, public intoxication and possession of a prohibited weapon.
