Governor Lee Visits Southern Border
Governor Bill Lee visited the US southern border over the weekend. Lee says the surge of migrants coming acorss the border is “an overwhelming situation”. Lee is the latest of many republican governors and lawmakers to visit the border in recent weeks…as the number of migrants have spiked since President Joe Biden took office.
Lee says the numbers have grown in recent months, which he added has brought about increased levels of criminal activities such as sex, human and drug trafficking. Migrants have been discovered crossing the US southern border from 56 different countries. Bill Lee became heavily involved in the border issue when the Biden administration began flying planeloads of undocumented children from the border into Tennessee without prior notice to state officials. Those planes have landed under the cover of darkness in both Chattanooga and Knoxville in the last couple months.
The governor says that Tennessee currently has 300 troops from the state National Guard stationed at the southern border. They are providing air and ground surveillance, technology assistance and maintenance…but the governor says they are not involved in apprehension of migrants.
