Groundbreaking For Newport Bypass This Friday
It has been a long wait, but a project that has been in the works for many years is finally getting ready to begin. This Friday morning, The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the Newport Bypass Project. The groundbreaking will be at 100 Tevet Way, on Friday morning at 10am. The Newport Bypass when completed will allow traffic coming from Greeneville on Highway 321 and heading to the west side of Newport to bypass the downtown area. This means a lot fewer eighteen wheelers driving through downtown Newport on their way to or from Greeneville. The project which will link Highway 321 near St. Tide Hollow to US 25-70 near Thinwood Drive has been in the planning stages for over 20 years.
