House Passes School Violence Bill…Unanimously
It isn’t very often anymore that a bill passes in the Tennessee State House…unanimously. However, it did it happen on Monday. The state house passed legislation that would increase the penalty for threatening violence at a school from being a Class A misdemeanor to a Class E felony. The bill passed with a 90-0 vote on the floor of the house. There were five that either voted present or not voting at all.
There have been numerous threats made against schools in East Tennessee over the last six months and Wednesday, March 27, is the first anniversary of the Covenant School shooting in Nashville.
The bill passed by the house Monday night is moving through committees in the Senate. Lawmakers expect it to be passed there as well.
