Identities Released For Victims Of Thinwood Drive Crash
The identities of both of the individuals killed in that crash on Thinwood Drive have now officially been released. 19 year old Brayden Hopkins and 15 year old Hayden Carter were killed when Hopkins, while negotiating a curve on Thinwood Drive, went off the left side of the roadway and struck a parked semi-truck trailer.
Hayden Carter was a sophomore at Cocke County High School and was a member of the Lady Red basketball team. Wednesday evening the Cocke County High School released a statement…
“It is with heavy hearts that Cocke County High School mourns the loss of rising sophomore Hayden Carter. She was a beloved member of the Cocke County High School Lady Red basketball team. Hayden epitomized the definition of a positive student athlete and is the player that every coach wants on their team. Her influence will always remain strong and her memory and honor will live on through her teammates. We all remember Hayden’s work ethic, bubbly personality, and determination. We ask that everyone remember her family, friends, and the Cocke County community in your thoughts and prayers.”
Funeral services for Hayden Carter are being handled by Manes Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-7pm. The funeral service will be at 10am Saturday with the burial following in the Gum Springs Union Cemetery.
Funeral services for Brayden Hopkins are as follows…
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Newport First Church of the Nazarene, followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm. Graveside service will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Brayden Hopkins was from Kingsport and he and Carter were cousins. Hopkins was in Newport visiting family. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 8:25pm Tuesday night near the intersection of Thinwood Drive and Hwy 25/70. The THP’s report says that both Hopkins and Carter were wearing their seatbelts.
