Intoxicated Driver Faces Multiple Charges
Newport police were called to the Sparkle Car Wash Sunday about a possible intoxicated driver in a white pick-up truck. The truck had reportedly struck a curb and flattened one of its tires before pulling into the Sparkle Car Wash parking lot and coming to a stop. 64 year old David John Watson, was found unconscious in the driver seat of the truck. He was holding a near empty bottle of Smirnoff vodka. Police searched Watson’s truck and found an illegal narcotics pipe, plus upon opening the passenger door, a small blue pouch fell from inside the vehicle. The pouch was opened and a plastic baggie containing a white crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine was inside. Watson was charged with possession of meth plus DUI and possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.
