Jefferson County Man Leads Police On High Speed Chase
A Jefferson County man attempting to deliver drugs in Cocke County led a Cocke County Sheriff’s deputy on a high speed chase Sunday evening. A man had called the Cocke County Sheriff’s office stating he heard that 18 year old Hezekiah Haney was going to be delivering marijuana to his underage daughter. While patrolling in the area of Holt Town Road, Deputy Shane Bower spotted Haney in a vehicle fitting the description called into police. Bower attempted to stop Haney, but Haney took off at a high rate of speed getting back to Hwy 25E and driving at speeds up to 122 mph in the opposite lane of travel, nearly causing several accidents. Haney then crossed into Jefferson County and turned left on Leadvale Road causing the patrol car to make contact with Haney’s rear quarter panel. that did not stop Haney who continued to drive fast and dangerous, nearly hitting a motorcycle. Deputy Bower out of concern for the public’s safety terminated the pursuit. During the chase, Haney threw a bag out of the window suspected to be the drugs he was taking to the underage girl.
About 15 minutes after Deputy Bower ended the chase, Haney’s vehicle was found abandoned by Dandridge police in the parking lot of the Food City on Hwy 25/70 in Dandridge. A warrant for evading arrest has been issued for Hezekiah Haney.
